Jessi Nicholson, BMusEd (voice)
Studio Director
Jessi established the Freedom Is A Voice Creative Studio because she has always loved creating opportunity for people to develop their creativity. She also believes that communities thrive and flourish when exposed to the arts. Therefore, the studio has fulfilled two of her dreams at the same time: to provide professionally instructed arts education and quality entertainment for the community.
Jessi is a vocalist, pianist, songwriter and actor whose credits include live recordings, movie soundtracks, voice over, film & television, live theater/, musical theatre and dance. She has been teaching for over 20 years, and enjoys her work with clients pre-school through to adults and seniors.
She has taught workshops and classes in and around the Lower Mainland, offering arts education in Vancouver, Richmond, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Surrey, Langley, White Rock, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Chilliwack. She also has toured the province of Saskatchewan four times to both urban and rural communities, working with both elementary and high school students. Her work has also taken her to the Yukon where she offered unique performing arts programming.
Jessi is an active member of the Vancouver arts community and strives to build authentic relationships with her colleagues and peers. She supports other artists by attending performances, exhibits and events and believes that artists thrive most when feeling the support of the surrounding community. Jessi is happy to "give back" by producing the Rooted Concert Series which features emerging and professional talent.
She has been Artistic Director of UBC's "Take To The Stage!" summer theater program for youth and has facilitated for Stage Craft, Uncle Randy Productions and the Vancouver School Board Artist in Residence program.
